The owners had a clear vision for their home. They wanted a design that could accommodate a bustling young family with a passion for hosting and entertaining. The result is a series of comfortable, contemporary and effortlessly stylish rooms that work morning through to evening and for every occasion.
The ground floor dining room is a case in point. Flooded with light thanks to expansive glazing, it provides the ideal homeworking set-up during the day. Come evening, however, and it adapts for formal dining, with its warm palette of dark timber, rust velvet, brass and natural stone and bespoke walnut dining table that seats up to 14 people.
In the nearby drawing room, the light, bright yet elegant scheme allows for both daytime lounging and evening get-togethers. Here, a combination of cream marble floors, textured plaster walls, smoked walnut cabinetry and furniture upholstered in cream boucle, soft grey tweeds, accents of deep blue and desaturated reds makes for a relaxed take on a formal sitting room.
In contrast, the family room on the ground floor is an intimate and sultry affair, with a palette of monochrome, textured plaster walls, and accents of vibrant blue injected via the velvet high-backed easy chairs and the glassware and objets on display. Beautiful freestanding furniture, chosen for its finesse and functionality, gives form to the room's generous proportions while allowing for easy reconfiguration.
Bespoke elements crafted from exquisite walnut and Nero Marquina, which bookends the room, provide a counter to serve guests and a custom-built sideboard to house the entertainment system, respectively. Meanwhile, orientating the space towards the sunken courtyard garden - and providing elevated comfort for movie-watching - is the sumptuous, deep corner sofa upholstered in faded golden fabric.
Carter Owers' choice of relaxed yet structured pieces, custom made joinery, and textured wall finishes throughout has resulted in three sophisticated social spaces that cater to the evolving needs of a large modern family. Read less
